Professor Heather MacIndoe

Research Interests and Specialties:
Nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, organizational theory
Dr. MacIndoe earned a Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Chicago and an M.A. in Sociology from Stanford University. She has a B.A. in Economics and American Studies from Wellesley College. Her research focuses on nonprofit organizations in urban areas.
In a new research project, the Boston Area Nonprofit Study (BANS), Dr. MacIndoe is examining how the use of organizational networks and outcome measurement by service-providing nonprofit organizations shapes nonprofit practice.
Dr. MacIndoe has published in the American Journal of Sociology and the journal Mobilization.

NEWS BRIEFS:
Heather MacIndoe organized a panel on "New Roles for Urban Nonprofits" at the Urban Affairs Association conference in Chicago on March 7th. She presented a paper, "Sector Mobilization: Public Policy Initiatives of Nonprofit Member Associations," co-authored with Public Policy Ph.D. student Sarah Hogue
MacIndoe also received a Joseph P. Healey Grant for her project "Funding the Social Safety Net: Learning Lessons for Challenging Economic Times" which will examine cross-sectional data on public and private funding to nonprofit human service organizations.
