Research Interests and Specialties:

Human Rights, Alternative Models of World Order, Religion and Politics.

Winston Langley is the Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Masschustts Boston where he also teaches political science and international relations. Dr. Langley’s research focus has included many aspects of human rights and the evolving nature of the international system. His international research topics include a focus on the inadequacy of the nation-state system arrangement, the weakness of the existing intergovernmental organizations (the United Nations, for example), the growth in power and influence of certain non-governmental organizations, and the paucity of alternative models for global ordering.

Dr. Langley is a member of the American Society of Intertnational Law and is a reviewer of nine publications, including New Political Science, Transnational Perspectives, and International Journal of African Studies. Dr. Langley received his J.D. at Suffolk University and his Ph.D. in Political Science/International Relations at Howard University. He received the Gustavus Myers Center for the Study of Human Rights Award for the Outstanding Book on Human Rights in North America and the Choice’s Outstanding Academic Book Award for the book, Encyclopedia of Human Rights. Dr.Langley has written six books, including Kazi Nazrul Islam: The Voice of Poetry and The Struggle for Human Wholeness and Human Rights: The Major Global Instruments.

Because Professor Langley now serves as a Universioty administrator, he is not currently teaching in the program.
